Essentials to Live

When is the last time you gave oxygen a thought? You’re probably saying, “Oxygen? Why would I ever think about oxygen?”

Oxygen is everywhere … land, ocean, atmosphere, space, and every cell of your body. It sustains everything living. You can not live without oxygen. Without oxygen, there wouldn’t even be water! Yet, as important as oxygen is, it is colourless, odourless, and tasteless. Can’t see it, can’t smell it, can’t feel it, can’t taste it. It’s hard to prove it’s even there. But it is everywhere, literally EVERYWHERE!

Without oxygen you will be dead. I did a little bit of research and found out that there are VERY few reasons that people die that doesn’t have to do with oxygen. I polled my facebook friends and every reason they gave traced back to the lack of oxygen. If you are thinking of something right now that someone dies from that you think doesn’t have to do with oxygen, google it and read through. Usually, at first, it seems like it doesn’t have anything to do with oxygen, but if you keep reading, it will eventually come back to oxygen. (Do yourself a favor and type in oxygen too. For example google, “Cancer oxygen”.)

The most amazing thing that struck me is that when people die because of a lack of oxygen, they are still surrounded by it. Do you get that? They die from no oxygen while totally submersed in it. When someone drowns, their lungs fill with water which keeps them from being able to breath in and get the oxygen they need. Yet water is made of what?? Hydrogen and OXYGEN!!! There is oxygen IN the lungs. The problem is that even though it is there, the body can’t process it. The oxygen is unable to fill the lungs because of the other element.

Oxygen sustains both life and fire. Without oxygen, there’s no life. Without oxygen, there’s no fire. A fire cannot begin, and it cannot continue without oxygen.

Okay, you’re probably going, “Why is she telling me about oxygen?” Well, because what struck me was how much oxygen is like God. O.O HUH??? If you read back through what I wrote above and put in God where you read oxygen and He where you read it, you will see what I mean.

How many times have you felt like you just couldn’t breath in life? Maybe started to hyperventilate, feel like your lungs are closing off. Yet, what you need is still right there. It’s the same with God. We start to hyperventilate, feel like our worlds are crashing in and yet, what we need is right there.

When we make choices in our lives that lead us in ways that are contrary to what God wants for us, we are in essence jumping in the ocean and trying to breath under water. God didn’t go anywhere, he’s still right there with us, surrounding us. We are just in the wrong place and unable to process things right. God is right there WITH us, maybe even IN us, but the other elements are keeping us from him filling us. We are just drowning ourselves. When we tell people it will be alright, just pray, God is with you and we know that they are not walking with God, it’s like telling them to take a deep breath while under water. It isn’t helping or doing them any good. They are not where they should be, God is still there, but they are not processing him.

We can’t be on fire for life and the things of God without him. We can not begin the fire nor can we continue the fire without him. We can try all we want on our own, but it just won’t happen. We might be able to get a few sparks here and there, but they will not ignite nor last. When we try to ignite our own fire, it’s like lighting a match in a bubble. The flame will last for only so long, but in the meantime, it will also be eating up the oxygen we need to live. We may think we are on fire, but we are just killing ourselves. We HAVE to let God be our source and our fuel, it’s the only way to sustain the fire.

I could go on and on. Do some research on Oxygen and while doing it, just place God where you see the word oxygen. It’s incredible.

Haha! Here’s a few side notes. There were two men who essentially discovered oxygen at the same time. But one got published before the other so he is usually credited for the discover. His name is Joseph Priestley … PRIEST-LEY! Get this, he was a Theologian, Dissenting clergyman, natural philosopher, educator, and political theorist. I just thought that was so funny, a man of God discovering the one thing on earth that just happens to sustain all life???

One last thing – this may go very deep. There is a term called “Free Oxygen.” Scientist say there was a time when there was no oxygen. It goes along with the whole evolution theory, but don’t let that side track you. Let me just put a few quotes in here:

Free oxygen also occurs in solution in the world’s water bodies.  In nature, free oxygen is produced by the light-driven splitting of water during oxygenic photosynthesis. Free oxygen started to gas out of the oceans 2.7 billion years ago, reaching 10% of its present level around 1.7 billion years. ago.(emphasis added by me) – Wikipedia

Free oxygen is a requirement of all aerobic organisms and its copious presence in a planetary atmosphere is diagnostic of the presence of life. – Encyclopedia of Science

Now, let me throw in a few more quotes:

1IN THE beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth.(A) 2The earth was without form and an empty waste, and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters.  3And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.  4And God saw that the light was good (suitable, pleasant) and He approved it; and God separated the light from the darkness.(B)  5And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.  6And God said, Let there be a firmament [the expanse of the sky] in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters [below] from the waters [above]. 7And God made the firmament [the expanse] and separated the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse. And it was so. 8And God called the firmament Heavens. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day. Genesis 1 (AMP) (Emphasis added by me)

Hmmm, oxygen and God – seem like they are the same thing to me. Both are ESSENTIALS for me to live. They are essential for you as well. Question is, can you breath them in, or are you drowning?

If you are drowning, all you have to do is reach your hand up and cry out to God and he will reach down and pull up to safety. Then find a Bible living church and get connected.
