Free2Live and to BE!

“put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Colossians 3:10

Oh how I would love if it was just as easy to put on my new self as it is to change clothes. Wouldn’t that be nice? Instead, it’s more like wearing a new pair of shoes which haven’t been broke in enough yet. There’s stiffness, discomfort, and a pain or two. And man, trying to put them on sometimes can be so difficult!

We walk through life with who we think we are based on who other’s have thought we were. Bet you read that line a few times. lol Think about it. We develop our identity based on other’s perceptions of who we are. Ever have the feeling of “I just can’t be myself”?

You may not even know what “myself” really is, but you just know you don’t feel like you can be it. It’s because we are plugged into the wrong source of who we are, and somewhere inside of us, we know it. We aren’t happy, we aren’t joyful, we are depressed, restless, always searching for something, we just can’t seem to rest.

But let’s read the scripture again.

“put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Colossians 3:10

So many times in scriptures, we put a period where there isn’t one. It doesn’t just say, “put on the new self.” It tells us how. Do you see it? It’s by renewing our minds with knowledge. But not just any knowledge, the knowledge has to come from our creator.

Remember, renewing is taking something that was and is, and making it to be. See, we were created in the image of One who is perfect. Our creator designed us for a purpose. This is the WAS part. We WAS created just the way we WAS supposed to be (forgive the bad grammar).

Then there is the IS. The IS is who we find ourselves being right now. With all our hang ups, who we think we IS. The us we IS, is the us they think we IS. lol After years and years of the thems, the theys, and those people speaking into us, we have become the IS we are today. Yet, something inside of us knows we aren’t who we are supposed to be. There is a longing to be. We just know we can’t be who we want to be, even when we don’t know who we are supposed to be.

We long to start BEing the us He designed us to BE. We need to get back to the words He spoke over us, into us. We need to let Him renew our thoughts, patterns, opinions. That’s the only way we can ever put on our new self. By going back to the creator, and picking back up what we left behind. We need to let Him tell us who we WAS designed to be instead of who we IS being today, so that we can BE what we WAS originally meant to BE. {yeah, I know, messing with my own head right now. lol] RENEWED!!!!

Sure, it will be uncomfortable at first. And maybe there will be some stiffness, and even some hurt. But oh, it will so be worth it! The whole point to being free is to be … ME! Comfortable with myself. We are all Free2Live and to BE. To just be the me we were designed to be!!

For those of us who call ourselves Christians, we find who we are to BE in God’s Word – the Bible. We meet with Him and ask Him, who do YOU say that I am? And then we ask Him to help to get dressed, to help us learn to walk in the renewed self He gives us. Not just hearing it, not just knowing it, but actually BEing it! RENEWED!!!
